8/10 - A lot of people just don't get Pinehurst #3. They look at the scorecard, they see it's length and only two sets of tees, and they head off to play one of Pinehurst's 7 other great courses. That's a huge mistake. #3 has green complexes that are almost identical to Pinehurst #2, they're just SMALLER, with even less useful landing area. #3, for the most part, is an extreme test of your post-driver golf game. All of the courses teeth are in those greens complexes. GIR's are quite difficult to achieve, and 3 putts are not uncommon. Focus on staying close to par on the front 9, because the back 9 starts with what the local's call Devil's corner (10, 11 and 12). You ARE going to loose a few strokes on those three, perhaps more than a few the first couple of times you play them. So bring your mid-iron game, and your short game.....you BEST short game....and enjoy what a lot of folks refer to as the Member's course.
