Playing Military Golf Courses

posted: 7 years 7 months 6 days ago

I agree completely that the military courses are a great value... I always look first to see if there's a course in the area before I check for other courses (unless there's some real gem in the area). I grew up in Santa Maria, CA, but never played the course at Vandenberg... I'll get back out there someday.

I did get the chance to play the Pine Bayou course at the Construction Battalion Base in Gulfport this past weekend. Really interesting course, with water on 15 of the 18 holes, and a number of really sharp doglegs -- definitely not a driver/wedge course... I hardly ever hit an iron off the tee to a par 4!

I understand that the course at Keesler AFB is open again after Katrina. That may be my next stop. I've got a lot of courses to try out on the MS Gulf Coast before I leave this command!

Fun day today

Took the day off and the wife actually played with me today. Shot a 92 and it could have been better, but I 3 putted 3 greens and was hitting my gap wedge 10 yards farther than usual, so it put me over the green a couple of times. Chipped in for a birdie on the par 5, 6th (only get a bird every 3 or 4 rounds) so I was pretty excited. Looking forward to playing tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great weekend and you get to play!

hello everyonel. I was in the USMC Avation Ordanance & Missle Technician from 1981 through 85. Originally from the Chicago area, living in S.E. Louisiaina for the last 14 years. I play golf once a week (wish I could more often). The third week of every month I play in the "Mid South Mens Golf" group that has a tounament at a different course in the area. If anyone comes through Slidell, give me a shout, I would love to play.

Military Golf Courses

Hi! I'm a USAF Reservist at Offutt NE, but I currently live in Oregon with my husband and two kids. I love the bargain of military courses, especially in areas like San Diego, Florida, and Hawaii.

I'm a single digit handicap player, and I've got to play for the Air Force team for several years. Some of the best military courses I've played are: Marshallia Ranch Vandenberg AFB, Lompoc CA, Mamala Bay, Hickam AFB HI, Parris Island's Golf Course in SC, Eglin AFB's courses in FL, Willow Lakes at Offutt NE, Millington Naval Base TN, Wright Patterson's Golf Course Dayton OH, Air Force Academy's two courses Colorado Springs CO, Naval Academy's Golf Course in MD, Ft Sam Houston GC in San Antonio, TX, Falcon Dunes in Phoenix AZ, Ft Bliss's Sunset/Sunrise Golf Courses El Paso, TX, Ft Lewis Golf Course Tacoma WA, Navy-Marine HI, and Kaneohe Klipper Marine Corps HI. Some other courses worth playing if TAD or TDY, Randolph AFB, Lackland AFB San Antonio TX; Kirtland AFB NM, all the Navy/Marine courses in San Diego, McChord AFB WA, Tinker AFB OK, Ft Carson Colorado Springs, CO, Warner Robins AFB in Macon GA, Shaw AFB SC, NAS Virgina Beach area Hornet and Tomcat, plus Little Creek; Ft Belvoir (sp) VA, Quantico MC post VA, Ft Knox KY, Dyess AFB Abilene TX, Patrick AFB FL, and Maxwell GC in Montgomery AL.

Hi, all!

I\'m Ed Mueller, a Navy Personnel Specialist, and Admin of this group. Currently, I'm an Instructor at NTTC Meridian, MS... and over at Ponta Creek Golf Course (the one here on base) as often as I can.

If you\'re reading this, you\'ve already found this group -- so thanks for joining! Hopefully, we can get a bunch of military people in here swapping scores and stories -- and find some good places to play if we happen to be TAD!

Feel free to post!
